Reflection: Data Inventory
Reflection:
The data inventory that I created in ITEC 7305 is the artifact that best demonstrates my ability to model and facilitate the effective use of diagnostic, formative, or summative assessments to measure student learning and technology literacy. The data inventory was a summary of several different types of data that is collected for Marietta High School. I collected this data from multiple websites and resources. The data sources I collected were diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments that measure student learning in a variety of subjects. The data sources range from assessments given by College Board, State of Georgia, Marietta City schools, and classroom teachers at Marietta High.
This artifact demonstrates mastery of the assessment standard in that it both shows my ability to model and facilitate the effective use of assessments and demonstrates my ability to use digital assessment tools to measure student learning. First, it shows my ability to model effective use of assessment through the collection of various types of assessment in order to reveal any weaknesses in the learning assessed. Next it reveals my ability to use digital tools online to collect data from websites such as www.doe.k12.ga.us and www.gosa.org.
In completing this artifact I learned how to access data on the various websites and pull it together to make a cohesive representation of the student learning at Marietta High. I feel like in order to improve the quality of the artifact I needed more specific information concerning the assessments. I would have liked to collect data on mastery of specific standards. I feel like assessing the large picture data helps find only general weaknesses. I would like to be able to pinpoint more specific items to work on.
Creating this artifact has the potential to impact school improvement, faculty development, and student learning. Using data to find both strengths and weaknesses in a system can only lead to improvement in all aspects of an organization. The assessment of the impact can be measured through the assessments that this data inventory contains.
