Artifact: My Media Center Website
Reflection:
The artifact I have chosen to demonstrate my ability to use digital communication and collaboration tools to communicate locally and globally with students, parents, peers, and the larger community is my media center webpage for Marietta High School. http://mhs.marietta-city.org/domain/357
I use this webpage to communicate our policies, research and digital resources, lesson guides/pathfinders, and different technology tools for education. I have organized the page for easy navigation and use it regularly with all stakeholders. There are pages listed on the left-side of the home page that link to the various webpages that are included in the website. The information on many of the pages is dynamic and changes are based on the needs of the stakeholders.
On the homepage, we list our general policies and during the school year we have a video blog that keeps everyone updated on the upcoming happenings in the library. We usually include new resources, new programs, information about that month’s book group, and upcoming lessons. My media specialist partner and I alternate months creating the video. We have found that by creating short funny videos, we keep our stakeholders entertained and up to date on the resources that are available. We update this the last Wednesday of every month and send the link in an email to all staff members at the school.
Other pages that demonstrate communication and collaboration tools are the research/lesson guide page, the teacher resources page, and the collaboration page. The research/lesson guide page contains the teacher/media specialist collaborative projects that students are currently working on. The teacher resource page contains recent training resources and the collaboration page contains our collaboration worksheet and evaluation sheet. As noted above these pages are constantly changing and updating throughout the school year. Our stakeholders use these pages regularly to access media center materials.
This artifact is essential for survival in this day and age for a high school media center. Our stakeholders want access to information 24/7 and by keeping the information on the page current and well stocked we find that we are able to support learning and our staff at Marietta High School. If I could do anything differently to improve this website, I would love to improve the navigation and make it easier for all stakeholders to access the resources they need with fewer clicks. I would also like to include a better format for my research guides/pathfinders. I feel that if all of our pathfinders were uniform that students and staff would find them easier to use. I also would like to include a page of resources for parents.
This artifact impacts school improvement, faculty development, and student learning. It does this by providing and communicating information for students and faculty to use in their learning.
